Just thirty years ago, names like Instagram, iPhone, and Kim Kardashian were unheard of. Now, there are likely tribes in the Amazon rainforest, yet to be discovered, that somehow still know about all three. The point here? Sometimes, things we haven’t necessarily heard of can go on to be game-changers. So it is then with “activated nuts.” Not heard of them? Then cast your reading eyes just this way…
We all know just how good nuts are for us. Cholesterol and saturated fat-free, nuts are high in fibre and also give us a wide range of key nutrients and minerals, such as magnesium and chromium to name but two.
Activated, also called sprouted nuts take all of those good points and make them even better! Activated nuts are soaked in brine for a while and then baked until dry. While that may sound a touch nutty (yes, you saw what happened there), there is good reason to do this. The soaking in brine causes the nuts to begin their germination process – and that’s good news for us. That’s because that germination process allows for the body to absorb the nut’s nutrients much more effectively.
Add to that how the baking until dry part allows your digestive system to further break down the make-up of the nuts, both accelerating nutrient absorption and breaking down the complex-carbohydrate components of the nut – something that allows your body to get an effective energy boost.
Human understanding of food is growing and developing all the time. There is then no doubt that activated nuts will become more and more popular as time goes by. We are of course always looking to make healthier changes to our diets all the time – and activated nuts really do tick that box. Plus they’re likely big in the Amazon rain-forest too.
